We are Pacific Climate Warriors who serve to protect our community, culture, land, and ocean!
350 Pacific is a youth-led grassroots network working with communities to fight climate change from the Pacific Islands and diaspora.
350 Pacific works with organizers across 18 Pacific Island nations and diaspora communities in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States of America to highlight our island countries’ vulnerabilities to climate change while showcasing our strength and resilience of people. We work through existing networks and with a range of partner organizations who share in our vision for the Pacific and the planet. 350 Pacific has organized and facilitated workshops to educate and empower youth in the region, and through our many campaigns, have amplified the voices of frontline communities in the face of the climate crisis.
From our Pacific Climate Warrior in Kiribati, “It means critically challenging the faults of Western-centric development systems that continue to harm the environment. Show strength by taking solidarity action for a common purpose to leave the planet earth better than when we found it. It also means courageously speaking up, mobilizing and scaling up our efforts as a community to ensure that all human rights and dignity of vulnerable and marginalized communities are honoured and defended”. Itinterunga Bainteit.
A warrior is resilient. A warrior is not aggressive or violent but is assertive. A warrior serves to protect their community, culture, land, and ocean. A warrior is always learning. A warrior responds to the needs of those around them and of the greater good. A warrior non-violently stands their ground against an adversary, injustice, and oppression. A warrior respectfully embodies their local culture and traditions. A warrior is accountable for their actions and words. A warrior serves those who cannot fight for themselves – future generations, animals, plants, and environments.
350 Pacific is the Pacific arm of 350.org that supports frontline communities affected by the climate crisis throughout the Pacific region and Diaspora communities in Australia, New Zealand, and the US. This structure is best represented by our Fale, where our country teams support the foundation. Our pillars, who hold up the beams, represent the four groups in the Pacific and Diaspora. The Secretariat, who is the 350.org Pacific staff, upholds the administrative duties of the Fale, which is guided by our Council of Elders. This structure creates the Pacific Climate Warriors network around the Pacific Region, including the Diaspora community in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA.
“Being a Pacific Climate Warrior is being someone you hope your grandchildren could be proud of. It’s being committed to a movement fighting for climate justice because of the love you have for your islands and future generations. Being a warrior is being someone who is motivated by love and justice”. Brianna Fruean
